Breakfast Is Important, Don't Underestimate

Until now many urban communities still underestimate breakfast. In fact, breakfast is one of the important things to get energy, balanced nutrition sources while maintaining health.
Seeing the importance of breakfast for the body, the 2018 National Breakfast Week (MESSAGE) celebration is celebrated every February 14-20. This is Nestlé's commitment to continue to support the community to prioritize healthy breakfast and balanced nutrition and has been launched since 2017. This year, Nestlé is holding a Ayo Bangun Indonesia campaign.

"Currently, there are still many Indonesian people who are not accustomed to breakfast. Or indeed there is breakfast, but the quality of breakfast consumed, such as the energy content, protein, vitamins and minerals still do not meet the needs of balanced nutrition, "said Prof. Dr. Ir. Hardinsyah, a nutritionist and Chair of the Indonesian Food Nutrition Program, in the Let's Come Build Indonesia 2018 discussion recently.

2012 data shows that 17-59% of school students and teens and 30.2% of adult women are not accustomed to breakfast. In addition, breakfast quality was found, 45% of school children had not met the nutritional needs of breakfast, 70% had not met the needs of breakfast vitamins and minerals, and 90% had not met breakfast fiber needs.

"However, actually the effort to educate the awareness of the importance of breakfast has been successful. Currently, breakfast habits among elementary school students in Indonesia have increased in the last five years. Surely this is a good achievement for all parties involved in the MESSAGE movement. Now indeed more and more Indonesian families understand the benefits of breakfast. The importance of breakfast starts from increasing the concentration and intelligence of children, instilling discipline habits, maintaining normal nutritional status, to reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, and stroke, "continued Prof. Dr. Ir. Hardinsyah.

In addition, he also explained how skipping breakfast can interfere with productivity because the body gets tired quickly, has no energy, has difficulty concentrating and increases the risk of weight gain. Of course if this is experienced by many people whether they are students or workers, it will disrupt productivity.

Elderly including needing breakfast as a source of energy. Just really need to think about choosing foods that are suitable. For example soft foods such as porridge or mashed potatoes with the addition of eggs, milk and so on.
